I’m 7oi.

My real name is Jóhann Friðgeir Jóhannsson, Jói for short. 7oi is basically a rendition of Jói made on a calculator in math class many years ago. So the name was basically fathered by boredom, as many of my projects.

I grew up in the small town of Ísafjörður, which is in the western fjords of Iceland. Free from the distractions of a big city, (or, in the case of Reykjavík, a tiny city) my attention went towards music around my teenage years. Armed with a keyboard, I participated in many fantastic bands such as Rússfeldur, Staubsauger Nilfisk, Chessplayers of Death, and the duo Sigurbjörn & Friðgeir. Somewhere along the way I got a computer and started experimenting with electronic music…

…and ten years later, here we are. I’ve moved back to Ísafjörður after venturing to the capital of Iceland for a few years, have released 4 albums, made tons of unreleased songs, worked on loads of different projects, almost finished my BA degreee in musical composition, have a beautiful wife and two beautiful daughters and I’m still making loads of music.

On a side note:

If you want to hire me for music related projects, but would like to be impressed by a list of previous acheivements before you decide, you’ve come to the right place.

I wanted to buy all your albums…how do i do this? I have paypal btw.

    Cheers and keep on rocking!

  2. Thanks! I try to keep it simple and happy!

About the albums. I’m currently not making more of the older albums because I lack the time to put the cd covers together (and I still have backorders of those that have been kind of hanging, to my own frustration and likely others). They are just available as mp3 releases at the moment on many different stores like iTunes, Amazon, Napster, and eMusic (I might have forgotten some stores). I’m putting the new album I just released this year on sale very soon, though, possibly within a few days, and that would be with the help of paypal. I’m not talking about an mp3 release there, although it will be available like that in about 1-2 months (it takes time to process in iTunes etc.). But the physical cd will be available in a few days. All the covers are already made for those, so there wont be any delay there.

  3. Just stumbled upon your Soundcloud page from Nathan Fake’s, and have become slightly addicted to your music already! absolutely divine :)
